The Indian Premier League (IPL) witnessed its six number 12,000 after Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitchell Marsh dispatched CSK speedster Deepak Chahar for a huge maximum over deep square leg.

Turning up for his side in match number 13 of the IPL 2024 season at the ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag on March 31, Marsh’s brutal hit also opened up the shackles for the Delhi Capitals amidst their dwindling run-rate after the sudden dismissals of their well-set openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw.

Batting at number four, Mitchell Marsh arrived to the crease in the 11th over of the Delhi Capitals innings after the dismissal of Prithvi Shaw at 103-2. Joining captain Rishabh Pant with an aim of rebuilding the innings in the backend, Marsh started cautiously as he accumulated just eight runs off his first eight deliveries.

In the 14th over of the innings, the Australian all-rounder eventually pulled Deepak Chahar’s short of a length delivery over deep square leg for a much-needed maximum.

The boundary also marked the six number 12,000 of IPL. The tournament, currently in its 17th edition, had witnessed its first maximum back during the opening game of the inaugural season when then KKR opener Brendon McCullum top-edged RCB fast bowler Zaheer Khan over third man.

After Mitchell Marsh’s searing hit, his skipper Rishabh Pant added a few more maximums to IPL’s illustrious tally. The dashing wicketkeeper-batter clubbed three sixes in all, and scored a rapid 32-ball 51 to take Delhi Capitals to a competitive 191-run total.

Earlier in the match, opening batter David Warner also listed three maximums during his 52-run knock at the top of the order.
