Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson bolstered his side to yet another victory, this time defeating LSG at Lucknow in match number 44 of the IPL 2024 season. The dashing wicketkeeper-batter pounded 71 unbeaten runs from just 33 balls in a run-chase masterclass alongside fellow half-centurion Dhruv Jurel.

The outcome marked Rajasthan Royals’ eighth win of the season, and their fourth in succession, as they strengthened their claim at the top of the IPL 2024 points table.

As Sanju Samson continues to relish a prolific run with the bat and as a leader, the 29-year-old has now received an unequivocal support from former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen to land a spot in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

While speaking at Star Sports, Kevin Pietersen expressed his unequivocal support for in-form Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson. The cricketer-turned-commentator believes that Samson deserves to make it to India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and USA this June.

Praising Samson’s run-scoring pedigree in difficult situations, Pietersen said:

“He has to go. There’s no doubt in my mind that he has to be on that aeroplane to the Caribbean and the USA in a couple of weeks. He is doing a lot with the pressure that he is also under as a captain and not being given higher honours. The way he scores runs and the situation he bats in, if I was the selector, he is one of my first picks.”

Sanju Samson has already stacked up 385 runs this IPL 2024 season at an average 77, with three match-winning half-centuries and another 68* against Gujarat Titans to his name.

The 29-year-old will now be seen leading his Rajasthan Royals peers against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in match number 50 of the tournament on May 2. The much-awaited contest will be staged at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
