Dhruv Jurel pumped out his maiden IPL half-century through his match-winning 52* against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Lucknow on April 27. Batting at number five for the Rajasthan Royals franchise, the cricketer shared an unbroken 121-run partnership with skipper Sanju Samson to steer his side past the finishing line with an over to spare.

After the match, Dhruv talked about his initial struggles with the bat in the evening before he overcame the same through a valuable advice he received from his skipper.

While speaking with the commentators after the match, Dhruv Jurel said that he had intended to finish the game for his team when he made his way to the crease to join captain Sanju Samson at a precarious 78-3.

The 23-year-old added how he adjusted during the run-chase and changed his batting mindset according to the field restrictions. He said:

“Batting in the middle order is always a blessing or maybe a curse. I just wanted to stay until the end and finish the game for my team. I will have to practice. In the batting powerplay, you have just two fielders outside the ring. During the middle overs, you'll need to find the gaps and get the big hits going, as there are five fielders in the deep. That's what I was looking at.”

Dhruv Jurel also admitted that he struggled to pierce the gaps early in his innings. He credited captain Sanju Samson for advising him to bide his time before going berserk in the middle. Young Dhruv further described his 20-run pounding of Mohsin Khan as his defining moment of the game. He said:

“I started well, but my shots went straight to the fielders. Sanju Samson then told me to calm down, not go too hard, and take my time. Then I got 20 runs in an over, and that got me going.”

The Rajasthan Royals batter, who celebrated his match-winning half-century with a salute, said that he dedicated it to his ex-serviceman father.

Dhruv Jurel will turn up for his franchise in their subsequent IPL 2024 challenge against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The much-awaited contest will be staged on May 2 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
