Sanju Samson says ‘luck and momentum’ with RR

Samson drilled 71 runs from just 33 balls and belted seven boundaries and four sixes through the course of his run-chase masterclass against LSG at Lucknow. Fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts, Samson credited his entire team for the comprehensive win, and praised his bowlers for tightening the lid on LSG’s run-flow at the death.

While speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the Rajasthan Royals skipper said:

“I was lucky to be behind the wickets throughout. There was purchase with the new ball and then with old ball the wicket got better for the batters. It was a team effort from all of us. We attacked in the powerplay and the bowlers did well in the end. We did well in the powerplay phase and then ended well that was satisfying for me. I think in the middle overs they batted well.”

Sanju Samson also hailed the run-chase efforts of Dhruv Jurel (52* off 34 balls) and credited the entire team management for shaping him for “tough situations”. He added:

“Dhruv Jurel batted really well. He bats in tough situations and believes in himself. Credit to the team management for preparing him well. It was a matter of time that he got runs.”

Samson further claimed that his team has been “lucky” and they will be aiming to carry their winning momentum in the coming weeks.

“Yes, we have been doing well away from home. We have been lucky and momentum is with us. We are ticking the right boxes and sticking to processes. Next game again box to be ticked. Taking it one game at a time.”

Having secured eight wins from just nine games, the Rajasthan Royals franchise is firmly placed at the top of the 10-team IPL 2024 points table. Under the leadership of Sanju Samson, they will now face the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 2.
