Brief Scores: India Women: 145-7 (20 overs) [Yastika Bhatia: 36 (29), Shafali Verma: 31 (22); Rabeya Khan 3/23 (4), Marufa Akter 2/13 (3)] defeated Bangladesh Women: 101-8 (20 overs) [Nigar Sultana: 51 (48), Murshida Khatun: 13 (18); Renuka Singh 3/18 (4), Pooja Vastrakar 2/25 (4)] by 44 runs.

India Women started off their Bangladesh tour with an emphatic win upfront in the series-opening first T20I match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on April 28.

India stumbles to 145 after 30s from Kaur, Bhatia

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India Women lost in-form opener Smriti Mandhana in just the third over of the innings as she was cleaned up by Fariha Trisna. Following her early dismissal, Shafali Verma steadied India’s ship with a calculated second-wicket partnership with number three Yastika Bhatia.

Both Verma and Bhatia defied Bangladeshi bowlers during the rest of the powerplay overs by shaping valuable 30-plus scores. The two Indian top-order batters eventually lost rhythm and became two of Rabeya Khan’s three victims of the afternoon.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur charted 30 runs from 22 balls thereafter before Richa Ghosh commanded India’s scoring rate till the end with a sizzling 23-run cameo. Their contributions, coupled with Sajeevan Sajana’s run-a-ball 11 kept the scoreboard ticking but timely breakthroughs from Marufa Akter (2-13) and Fahima Khatun (1-31) restricted India to 145-7 from 20 overs.

Renuka outmatches Sultana’s 51 with clinical three-fer

Defending 146, Renuka Singh struck twice with the new-ball itself by removing Bangladesh opener Dilara Akter and number three Sobhana Mostary early in the innings. Deepti Sharma and fast bowler Pooja Vastrakar also accounted for the key wickets of Murshida Khatun and Fahima Khatun as Bangladesh Women slipped to 30-4 in 6.1 overs.

Amidst tumbling wickets at the other end, captain Nigar Sultana struck a fluent 48-ball 51 to lead Bangladesh’s recovery in a tense run-chase. However, she received little-to-no assistance from the other end as India’s rampaging bowling attack limited the hosts to just 101-8 from 20 overs.

Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav also contributed with a wicket each towards India’s winning cause while Renuka finished with astonishing figures of 3-18.
