CSK fast bowler Deepak Chahar believes the quality of balls used in cricket matches off late has not been up to the mark. Th 31-year-old paceman claimed that bowlers should get to choose from at least a set of 12 balls, instead of being presented with the standard set of six options.

As per Chahar, bowlers need to pick a ball which they believe would assist them with swing during the earlier stages of its use.

Deepak Chahar shares advice to improve quality of balls

Prior to taking field for the Chennai Super Kings franchise ahead of their home IPL 2024 clash against the LSG, Deepak Chahar opened up about the deteriorating ‘quality of balls’ off late despite their ‘huge production’.

Chahar claimed that a good ball can assist bowlers get swing upfront, and they should get to select from a set of at least 12 balls.

"I was speaking about it. The quality of the balls isn't good. Obviously, the production is huge and the requirement is huge. But when we get to select a ball, we only get six balls. I think a change can be made in it. Give a box or at least 12 balls so that the bowler can at least select a ball. The other things are not in his favour. If we get a good ball, at least it will swing for two or three overs. If the shape of the ball isn't good or the seam is not good, we won't be able to see the swing in the first over as well. I feel the quality isn't good."

As of now, Deepak Chahar is plying his trade for the CSK franchise in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. So far in his five appearances for the ‘Yellow Brigade’ this year, the right-arm quick has picked up just four wickets at an expansive average of 41.25.

Despite his recent struggles with the ball, Deepak Chahar continues to remain a cogent force in the powerplay for his team. In the ongoing season, he has often bowled in tandem with fellow pace colleagues like Mustafizur Rahman, Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande.
