Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson received an early lifeline from Mumbai Indians’ Tim David off the bowling of Hardik Pandya in match number 38 of the IPL 2024 season.

Chasing 180 for a win at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Samson scored 19 runs from his first 13 deliveries before his miscue off Pandya’s slower delivery was dropped by David long-on.

Shortly after the cricketer’s early reprieve, he took his side past the 150-run mark alongside a well-set opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Rajasthan Royals captain and in-form batter Sanju Samson arrived to the crease following the dismissal of opener Jos Buttler at 74-1. The 29-year-old subsequently launched two huge sixes off Mohammad Nabi and Hardik Pandya to keep afloat with the Royals’ run-chase charge.

As Samson raced to 19* from 13 balls, he was deceived by Pandya’s back of a length slower delivery considering his mistimed pull went high up in the air towards Tim David at long-on.

Fortunately for the Rajasthan Royals franchise and much to the dismay of the Mumbai Indians skipper, David ended up making a mess of a relatively easy catch at the region.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians formed 179-9 from their 20 overs off the back of Tilak Varma’s 45-ball 65 and Nehal Wadhera’s 24-ball 49. Mohammad Nabi also slapped a valuable 23 after Mumbai Indians had slipped to 20-3 inside the opening powerplay.

Among the Rajasthan Royals bowlers, seasoned speedster Sandeep Sharma snared five wickets in the innings, including the prized scalps of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and half-centurion Tilak Varma to finish with figures of 5-18.

Later in the run-chase, Rajasthan Royals romped to an easy win, with Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scoring in the match.
