The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are all set to face the Rajasthan Royals in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The match is scheduled for April 6th at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. 

The Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently on opposite ends of the spectrum. The Royals are on a hot streak, having won three matches in a row, while the Royal Challengers are grappling to find their footing in the tournament. This sets the stage for a compelling showdown, with both teams relying on their star players to deliver. 

Two players from the two teams, Jos Buttler and Faf du Plessis, have let their teams down with their performances in the IPL 2024. In this article, we compare the performances of the two players and try to find out who has been a bigger disappointment to his franchise.


Jos Buttler vs Faf du Plessis - Batting Performances in IPL 2024 

Jos Buttler has scored 35 runs in IPL 2024 at an average of 11.66 and a strike rate of 85.36. 

On the other hand, Faf du Plessis has scored 65 runs in the tournament at an average of 16.25 and a strike rate of 132.65. 

So, based on the batting performance this season, Jos Buttler has been a bigger disappointment than Faf du Plessis.

Buttler has been integral to Rajasthan Royals' plans since his inclusion into the roster. However, Buttler's failure in this edition has not impacted the team's performance to a great extent, as they have managed to win all three of their matches so far. 

The added responsibility of captaincy is negatively impacting Faf in this case. Due to the lack of runs with the bat, Faf's leadership is falling apart. He seems a bit confused about how to use his players and make the best of the resources that are available to him.

Thus, in this case, Faf's failure is a bigger disappointment for Bengaluru.  


Jos Buttler vs Faf du Plessis - Value for Money

The Rajasthan Royals retained Jos Buller for INR 10Cr ahead of IPL 2022. This means he is paid 71.42 Lakhs (considering he plays all 14 matches) for each game. So, if we look at his performance in the season, each run has cost the franchise INR 6.1 Lakhs. 

On the other hand, Faf du Plessis is getting paid INR 7 Cr for this season. This means his per-match cost to the franchise is INR 50 Lakhs. Compared with his performance, each run of his costs INR 3.07 Lakhs for RCB this season. 

Thus, so far, Faf has been more value for money to RCB than Buttler has been for RR. The three points discussed here show that Buttler has been a bigger disappointment for RR than Faf for RCB.
