Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram, has come out in support of Mumbai Indians (MI) captain, Hardik Pandya, who has been under severe criticism ever-since he replaced Rohit Sharma.

Fans have completely turned on Hardik and the former Gujarat Titans leader has endured a tough homecoming at MI.

Akram has lend his support to Hardik and at the same time has criticised the fans who jeer their own players.

"This is the problem in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. We never forget. We tell our kids that when Pandya's kid is born, you have to remind him why he became captain 20 years ago. We don't move on," Akram said.

"I think fans need to be a little calm. At the end of the day, he is your player. He plays for Mumbai Indians, and he is the one who can make you win. There is no point booing your own player. You can criticize a little bit, but move on," he added.

The Chennai Super Kings captaincy change was a smooth transition, which the fans accepted. However, the MI captaincy saga caused a controversy, and has divided the MI camp into two halves.

Hardik's performance has also been affected in IPL 2024. The captain has underperformed as a leader and has failed to deliver the goods with the bat and ball.
