Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja struck thrice with the ball in a space of eight deliveries against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match number 22 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season.

Moreover, the 35-year-old also seized two sharp catches on the field as the ‘Yellow Brigade’ catered themselves to an easy win at Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on April 8.

After getting adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts, Jadeja jokingly asked for a nickname for himself to join the legendary CSK league of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina, aka ‘Thala’ and ‘Chinna Thala’.

Jadeja unaware of IPL milestone, asks for a nickname

Ravindra Jadeja claimed match-winning figures of 3-18 off his four overs and pocketed two catches against KKR on April 8. Notably, through his latest set of fielding brilliance, Jadeja became only the fifth cricketer in history to complete 100 IPL catches as a non-wicketkeeper.

Moreover, the 35-year-old also attained a significant height of achieving a rare IPL treble of scoring 1,000 runs, taking 100 wickets and pocketing 100 catches.

When he was confronted of his landmark all-round milestone at the post-match presentation ceremony, Ravindra Jadeja claimed that he was unaware of the record.

He said:“I didn't know that. Seriously, I didn't know that.”

Ravindra Jadeja also jokingly asked for getting verified of a nickname, much like CSK legends MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.

Both Dhoni and Raina are fondly described as “Thala” and “Chinna Thala” respectively by CSK fans for their valuable contributions for the franchise.

“I think they both got verified, but mine is not yet verified, so I need to ask someone to get it verified. So yeah, hopefully, they give me verification soon," Jadeja said.

The legendary all-rounder further expressed his familiarity of bowling on the turning surfaces of the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

"For visiting teams, it takes time to adjust. Coming here to play and understand the surface can be challenging. We are more familiar with the conditions than the visiting team.”

Emboldened by a ‘Player of the Match’ performance, Ravindra Jadeja will now reprise his role for the CSK franchise in match number 29 of the IPL 2024 season against Mumbai Indians.

The much-awaited contest will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 14.
