Sanju Samson led Rajasthan Royals’ run-chase recovery from the front against Delhi Capitals, pounding 86 runs at Delhi in match number 56 of the IPL 2024 season.

Chasing a monumental 222 for a win, the dashing wicketkeeper-batter arrived at the crease within the opening over of the innings after the early dismissal of young Yashasvi Jaiswal

Samson counterattacked Capitals on his way to a splendid half-century with eight boundaries and six sixes before his dismissal tilted the tide back in the favour of the hosts.

Mukesh Kumar douses Sanju Samson threat

Chasing 222, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson carved eight boundaries and six sixes after arriving to the crease at 4-1 in the opening over.

The cricketer shared 63 runs with Jos Buttler, 36 runs with Riyan Parag and another 59 runs with Shubham Dubey to steer his side past the 150-run mark in just 14.1 overs.

Just as Rajasthan Royals were beginning to regain advantage over the hosts, Samson’s blitzkrieg was halted by Capitals fast bowler Mukesh Kumar.

After the 29-year-old batter smacked Kumar towards the long-on boundary, Shai Hope claimed a smart catch around his chest height with his boots almost parallel to the cushion.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals piled up 221-8 from 20 overs, courtesies of rapid half-centuries from openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel as well as through a 20-ball 41 from Tristan Stubbs.

The Rajasthan Royals, in response, were rocked early in the run-chase with the sudden dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jos Buttler, Riyan Parag and Shubam Dubey also failed to convert their confident starts into notable scores as Royals faltered 185-7 at one stage of the innings.
