Talismanic Indian batter Virat Kohli achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring his 50th ODI hundred during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

This extraordinary feat has now been honoured as one of the top sporting moments at the Laureus World Sports Awards held in Palacio de Cibeles in Madrid, Spain, on Monday (April 22).

This recognition is undoubtedly well-deserved, as the Mumbai crowd witnessed history being made by none other than the legendary King Kohli himself. Kohli, who marked his 35th birthday by equalling a record century against South Africa, surpassed Tendulkar for the third time in the first semi-final of the World Cup.

Following in the footsteps of the batting legend Tendulkar, who carried the hopes of the nation for two decades, Kohli reached his 50th ODI century in the 41st over of the Indian innings, 12 years after Tendulkar's memorable World Cup farewell.

India's number 3 batter accomplished this milestone in his 279th ODI innings. Notably, Master Blaster Tendulkar was present in the stadium to witness Kohli's historic achievement.

Meanwhile, Monday evening witnessed the 25th edition of the Laureus World Sports Awards, an event dedicated to acknowledging outstanding individual and sporting accomplishments from the previous year.

The prestigious awards for Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year were claimed by Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic and Spanish football sensation Aitana Bonmatí, respectively.

During the ceremony, a video showcasing remarkable sporting moments included Australian cricketer Travis Head's remarkable running catch to dismiss Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the World Cup final.
