[Watch] Frustrated Gambhir Argues With Fourth Umpire After KKR Denied Single Against PBKS

During the Punjab Kings (PBKS) match at Eden Gardens on Friday, April 26, former India batter and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir engaged in a heated discussion with the umpires, as captured in a widely circulated video on social media.

Gambhir appeared visibly animated as he attempted to persuade the fourth umpire of something before eventually relenting.

His frustration reached a boiling point during a contentious moment in KKR's innings. It occurred following the final ball of the 14th over when Rahul Chahar delivered a shorter delivery outside off, prompting Andre Russell to attempt a cut through cover.

However, Ashutosh Sharma's superb stop inside the circle led to a quick throw towards PBKS' wicket-keeper, Jitesh Sharma. Despite Russell attempting to sneak a single off the overthrow, on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary promptly denied it, citing that he had already called it over when Ashutosh intervened.

While Russell seemed unfazed by KKR not being granted the single, Gambhir was visibly enraged, approaching the fourth umpire stationed beside the KKR dugout for a heated exchange. The argument persisted for some time before Gambhir, still dissatisfied, retreated.

In hindsight, the denied single would have made little impact against PBKS, whose aggressive batting approach dominated the proceedings. Despite Gambhir's lively demeanor during KKR's innings, with Sunil Narine and Phil Salt launching an assault on the PBKS bowling attack, their mammoth total failed to deter Punjab.

Jonny Bairstow's sensational century, half-centuries from Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh dashed KKR's hopes, leading to Punjab Kings securing a resounding victory with eight wickets in hand and eight balls to spare.
