Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was dismissed for 86 against Delhi Capitals under controversial circumstances in match number 56 of the IPL 2024 season. As he pumped Capitals speedster Mukesh Kumar towards the long-on region, he was holed out by Shai Hope at the edge of the boundary.

Samson, who was not entirely satisfied with the catch in the deep, broke into an argument with the on-field umpires before eventually making his way back into the pavilion.

As it turned out, Delhi Capitals chairman Parth Jindal animatedly celebrated Samson’s downfall in the stands at a time when the latter was still in discussion with the umpire. Jindal’s celebration ended up drawing much criticism among fans of the cricketer, with several of them taking to social media to question the integrity of the businessman.

Sanju Samson kept Rajasthan Royals’ run-chase prospects alive after arriving to the crease in the opening over of the innings. The cricketer smacked 86 runs from just 46 balls to steer his team past the 150-run mark. However, just as the Royals were beginning to regain some advantage over the Capitals, Samson was holed out by Shai Hope near the boundary off Mukesh Kumar’s bowling.

The dismissal tilted the tide back in favor of the Delhi Capitals, prompting chairman Parth Jindal to unfurl an overenthusiastic celebration at the stands of the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Jindal’s animated celebration ended up drawing much criticism from netizens all over social media, with several fans of the cricketer questioning the integrity of the businessman. One particular fan on X (formerly Twitter) also took this opportunity to troll Mumbai Indians’ Akash Ambani.

Delhi Capitals ended up winning the match by 20 runs, thus tendering Sanju Samson’s 46-ball 86 in vain.
