ICC T20 World Cup Receives Terror Threat: CWI Ensures Safety Measures

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has guaranteed the safety of all teams traveling to the Caribbean islands despite terrorist alerts originating from North Pakistan ahead of the World Cup.

It has been reported that pro-Islamic State (IS) groups have launched campaigns inciting violence at major sporting events, including the T20 World Cup. 

Terror threat looms large on T20 WC

The threat was conveyed through a video from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch of IS, known as IS-Khorasan (IS-K), which highlighted numerous attacks that have occurred in various countries.

Jonny Graves, the CEO of the CWI had responded to the issue.

"We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Jonny Graves said.

Caribbean media reports that the governments of the Caribbean islands have implemented stringent security measures in response to the threat.

 According to the media reports government assure all stakeholders of the T20 World Cup that safety is their top priority.

 The government promises a comprehensive and robust security plan to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the event, adds media report.

Venues of World Cup

The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies. Major venues in the West Indies include Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.

India's group games are scheduled to be held in the USA, while the second round games will take place in the West Indies. 

The major cities hosting games in the USA are Florida, New York, and Texas. Fortunately, there have been no reported threats for the games in the USA.
