CSK successfully defended 167 runs on the slow pitch of Dharamsala to topple PBKS in a must-win contest, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was relieved to cross the finish line despite the absence of key players.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) struggled against Punjab Kings (PBKS) earlier today as a total of 167 runs looked way below their standards.

However, the half-strength bowling squad showed a lot of guts to win the low-scoring contest by 28 runs and fetched important 2 points to stay alive in the playoff race.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the winning captain, confessed that he was relieved to win the game despite losing the toss, which is a rare occurrence for him this IPL 2024 season.

Not only that, Gaikwad claimed that CSK was definitely a few runs short, but fortunately, the bowlers were brave enough to make a game out of it.

"Yes, losing tosses and winning games. So, don't mind it. The wicket was low and slow bounce as well. The start that we got we should have got 10-15 more. We were short with the bat but the bowlers did their job," Gaikwad said.

Gaikwad mentioned Simarjeet who bowled with great pace but unfortunately missed out most of the season due to team combination issues. 

"Simarjeet was great with the pace that he had. He did not get too much chance due to our combination. We thought of sending Impact batter but he bowled really well and it was the right choice that we had," he added.

Lastly, the CSK captain said he breathed a sigh of relief as with guys like Deepak Chahar and Pathirana missing due to injuries, he was skeptical about CSK’s odds versus PBKS.

"Yes, we had a sigh of relief. Pathirana was injured. Few guys had flu. So, good to get the win with so much adversity around and gets the win in the end," Ruturaj concluded.

With the important win, CSK jumped to third place in the points table, whereas PBKS slipped to 8th place.
