As has been a norm for KKR this IPL 2024 season, openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt provided yet another batting bombardment at the top, this time racing to 61 runs in just 26 balls before the dismissal of the Englishman at the hands of LSG seamer Naveen-ul-Haq.

Salt smacked 32 runs from just 14 balls in his powerplay assault, while Narine raced to 31* alongside number three Angkrish Raghuvanshi until the conclusion of six overs.

Following his 61-run stand with Phil Salt, opener Sunil Narine shared another 79 runs with Angkrish Raghuvanshi for the second wicket to blaze KKR to 140 from just 12 overs. The dynamic all-rounder himself bashed 81 runs from 39 balls and he laced his batting onslaught with seven towering sixes and six additional boundaries.

After Naveen-ul-Haq led LSG’s fightback with the key wickets of Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, KKR’s number seven batter Ramandeep Singh tilted the tide back in his team’s favor with a strong finish at the death. The uncapped Indian cricketer slapped 25 unbeaten runs from just six deliveries to set up KKR’s monumental 235-6.

Despite losing opening partner Arshin Kulkarni early in the innings to Mitchell Starc, LSG skipper KL Rahul counterattacked alongside number three Marcus Stoinis with a commanding 50-run partnership from just five-and-a-half overs.

Stoinis himself compiled 36 runs in the chase as LSG took early command in the powerplay overs.

A well-set KL Rahul was shown the door by KKR’s Harshit Rana at 70-2. As it turned out, the dismissal of the LSG skipper ended up triggering a colossal batting collapse for the hosts. Deepak Hooda, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni and Ashton Turner all faltered in the run-chase as LSG slipped to 109-6 in the space of just few overs.

Rana and Varun Chakravarthy soon tore through LSG’s lower-order with sizzling three-wicket hauls to envelop the hosts for just 137.

KKR ended up registering a huge 98-run win, thus dethroning Rajasthan Royals from the top of the IPL 2024 points table.
