The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is thinking of increasing the earnings of domestic cricket players. They feel that those players who don't play in the IPL should not feel left out or treated any differently.

BCCI's current pay system for domestic players

Currently, the BCCI pays different amounts to domestic cricket players depending on the number of matches they have played.

A player who has played more than 40 Ranji games is paid INR 60,000 per day. Those who have played between 21 and 40 games are paid INR 50,000, and those who have played exactly 20 games are paid INR 40,000.

The reserve players get INR 30,000 if they have played over 40 games, INR 25,000 for 21 to 40 games, and INR 20,000 for exactly 20 games.

A senior cricketer could earn up to INR 25 lakh in this payment structure if his team reaches the final. Other team members would earn between INR 17 lakh and INR 22 lakh.

The proposed new payment plan

This new rumoured payment structure proposed that a player could earn between 75 lacs and one crore if he played 10 Ranji games.

Players will also earn from other BCCI white ball tournaments, such as Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali trophies.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has long advocated for improvements in Ranji fees, addressing the issue in the past.

He welcomed Jay Shah's announcement, believing that if the proposed changes were implemented, it would lead to fewer withdrawals from domestic cricket.
