Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh believes Hardik Pandya can replicate his 2007 T20 World Cup feat of hitting six sixes in an over in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

On April 26, Yuvraj was appointed as one of the ambassadors of the T20 World Cup 2024 alongside Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt. During a recent interaction with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the ex-Indian all-rounder was asked to pick a cricketer who could match his 2007 batting heroics, and he also unveiled his four ideal semi-final picks for the competition.

While interacting with the ICC on the latter’s social media accounts, Yuvraj Singh predicted India, Australia, Pakistan and defending champions England as the four semifinalists of this year’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States.

When asked to name one cricketer who can replicate his record six-hitting feat from the 2007 T20 World Cup against England, Yuvraj named active all-rounder Hardik Pandya as his ideal candidate.

Yuvraj Singh further picked Suryakumar Yadav as a ‘key player’ for India’s chance in the upcoming tournament.

Back during the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, Yuvraj Singh bludgeoned England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over at Durban. The all-rounder blasted a 12-ball 50, and made his way back to the sheds with a 16-ball 58 to his name.

The innings marked the fastest half-century in the history of T20 cricket at the time, and also made Yuvraj Singh the first ever T20I batter and second overall in international cricket to hit six sixes in a single over.

Meanwhile, both Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are currently plying their trade for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The two cricketers will be expected to make it to India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 in June this year.
