Royal Challengers Bengaluru sustained their rough patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League season, incurring their seventh defeat in eighth group-stage appearance on Sunday evening.

However, the Red Brigade earned massive praise for their fighting spirit despite losing a close affair against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Chasing a mammoth target of 223 runs, RCB managed to finish with 221 runs on the board, losing the game by a solitary run.

After the match concluded, the Knight Riders' team mentor Gautam Gambhir heaped praise on RCB, hailing for the tough character they displayed during the tense clash.

"Phenomenal display of character by RCB today!," posted Gambhir on his official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter)

Earlier, riding on Shreyas Iyer's valiant fifty and useful contributions from Phil Salt, Andre Russell and Ramandeep Singh, KKR posted a whopping 222-run total on the board.

In response, RCB were in a commanding position at one stage, with Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar playing scintillating knocks.

However, once Andre Russell showcased his bowling brilliance, the game swung significantly in the hosts' favour. Although Karn Sharma played a magnificent cameo, Mitchell Starc held his nerves to seal the game in KKR's favour.
