'No Place For Milestones': Wasim Jaffer Criticises Kohli For His Pursuit Of Milestones

Former Indian opening batter Wasim Jaffer has voiced sharp criticism against Virat Kohli's century in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) recent IPL match against Rajasthan Royals(RR) on Saturday in Jaipur.

Jaffer, alongside other former cricketers, expressed concern over Kohli's approach, slamming the star player for prioritizing personal milestones over the team's needs.

Jaffer pointed out that despite being well-set, RCB faltered in the crucial 19th and 20th overs, scoring a mere four runs as Kohli completed his century off 67 balls, equalling the record for the slowest IPL century

This, according to Jaffer, significantly impacted RCB's chances, ultimately leading to their six-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals.

"In the RCB game, those 19th and 20th overs have hurt them, even though Virat Kohli got that milestone," Jaffer emphasized during the ESPNcricinfo post-match analysis show.

Highlighting the importance of team contributions over individual accolades, Jaffer referenced Mumbai Indians' recent victory over Delhi Capitals, where Romario Shepherd's pivotal performance in the death overs proved decisive.

"There is no such place for milestones. If you can get it, good enough, but you still have to go hard," Jaffer stressed, emphasizing the need for players to prioritize team success.

Echoing Jaffer's sentiments, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag also criticized Kohli for his slow century, underscoring the team's lack of momentum in the final overs.

With Royal Challengers Bangalore languishing in the 9th position in the IPL points table after three consecutive losses, the pressure mounts on Kohli and his team to bounce back.

RCB's next challenge awaits them against Mumbai Indians(MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 11.
