In a nail-biting encounter between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), one notable absence from the RCB lineup was Glenn Maxwell. Despite his absence, the match turned out to be one of the most thrilling contests of the season.

Batting first, SRH put up an astonishing total of 287 for the loss of just three wickets in 20 overs which is the highest total in IPL history beating their own record vs Mumbai Indians this season.

RCB tried hard to chase the target. Even though they were in lot of pressure, RCB's batsmen showed great determination.

Glenn Maxwell's absence from the game was notable, and many fans believe that if he had played, RCB might have had a better chance of winning.

Glenn Maxwell is on physical and mental break

Glenn Maxwell stated in press conference that he needed a break from cricket as he felt tired both physically and mentally. He talked to RCB captain Faf du Plessis about this and they agreed he should take time off to recharge. This had helped Maxwell in the past as per the player's words.

But when Maxwell saw how well Travis Head played in the early overs on the Chinnaswamy pitch, he felt a bit bad about his decision to take a break.

"I did notice during the powerplay that the pitch was not as slow and two-paced as it has been in the first few games. And I realised it was probably a bad game to miss; it would have been nice to be out there batting," Maxwell said in the post-match press conference.

He further added: "For me, personally, it was a pretty easy decision," Maxwell said after RCB's sixth defeat in seven matches. "I went to Faf [du Plessis] and the coaches after the last game and said I felt it was probably time we tried someone else. I have been in this situation in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into a hole. I think now is actually a good time for me to give myself a bit of a mental and physical break, get my body right."

RCB finds themself at the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings after suffering their sixth loss in seven games.
