The Pakistan Cricket Broad (PCB) re-appointed Babar Azam as the new white-ball captain. The 29-year-old stepped down from captaincy after a horrible show in India during the ODI World Cup last year.

Pakistan faced a humiliating defeat against New Zealand's half-strength squad and Babar Azam's captaincy once again faced criticism

In the second T20, Rizwan played a vital role significantly contributing with bat and behind the stumps. However, as advised by the medical team, Rizwan refrains from further participating in the series and is advised to focus on rest and rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, after the game, Babar praised his team's batting performance but scrutnised the bowling.

Babar Azam Opines After Pakistan Suffered Loss Against New Zealand

Pakistan captain Babar Azam expressed his and the Pakistan team's determination after facing defeat in the third T20I.

"To be honest, the batting wasn't that bad. We managed to catch up later on but I think we were 10 runs short and you know  Mohammad Rizwan also faced a setback and got injured so a new batter had to step in but as you know it's not easy for a new batter to adjust early on. However the way Shadab Khan and  Irfan (Khan Niazi) set up a partnership recovered us so well. You know on this venue a par score is between 180 to 190 so I think we did well in batting," Babar Azam said.

The extent of Rizwan's hamstring injury is yet to be revealed, although Pakistan medical team took no risk with the experienced wicket-keeper as he retired hurt midway through his innings and took no further part in the game less than six weeks out from the start of ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

On Sunday, Mark Chapman single-handedly took the Michael Bracewell-led side over the line at Pindi, beating Pakistan fair and sqaure in the 3rd T20I match.

The next T2OI between Pakistan and New Zealand will be played on April 25, 2024.
