Dynamic Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has expressed his disappointment at being constantly overlooked by the national selectors despite his strong performances in domestic cricket.

Shaw, who led the Indian U19 team to World Cup glory in 2018 and made his Test debut the same year, has not featured for the national side in any format since the 2021 white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.

The swashbuckling opener recently smashed two hundreds for North Zone in Duleep Trophy, and speculations were rife that he would be handed a recall for the ODI series against the visiting South African team.

As it turned out, he was again overlooked, with the selectors picking the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan over him.

Speaking to Mid-Day, Shaw opened up about his constant snub:

"I was disappointed. I am scoring runs, doing a lot of hard work, but not getting a chance. But, it's alright. When they [national selectors] feel I am ready, they will play me.

"Whatever opportunities I get, whether it is for India 'A' or other teams, I will make sure I do my best and keep my fitness levels up to the mark."

Prithvi Shaw's career has been full of ups and downs so far

Once a blue-eyed boy of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw's fortunes in international cricket have constantly declined in the last 2 years.

Having shot to instant stardom in 2018 after he smashed a Test hundred on debut, Shaw was picked as one of the openers for the tour of Australia.

However, his tour was prematurely cut short due to an injury he suffered during a tour game. Apart from this, reports also surfaced in the media that the management wasn't happy with his attitude.

Shaw hit a new low the following year when he was found guilty of taking a banned drug. However, he returned to the set-up following the completion of his suspension, but extremely tough conditions in New Zealand and in Australia in 2020/21 meant he was dropped again.

Since then, he has fallen way below in the pecking order despite his consistent performances in domestic cricket across all formats.
