Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja backed the board's decision of launching the Women’s T20 League, stating it is a “need of the hour” and will help female cricketers to further improve their skills.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board, on Thursday (October 6), unveiled the country's first-ever franchise cricket tournament for its female cricketers, which will see four teams competing against each other in the inaugural edition of the league.

Taking to Twitter, Raja wrote:

"This initiative for our women cricketers is the need of the hour."

"Not only will the Women's League help hone the skills of our current cricketers but strengthen the pool of talent. In March we will back our girls, break barriers, and level the playing field."

The inaugural edition of Pakistan's Women's T20 League is all set to kick start on March 3 next year and will run alongside the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with the final of the tournament set to be played on March 18 in Rawalpindi.

There will be four teams in the competition vying for the coveted title and each team will have a pool of 12 local and six overseas players. A total of 12 matches will be played in the tournament and all the fixtures are scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi.
