Match 17 of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022 witnessed the Adelaide Strikers thump the Melbourne Renegades by eight wickets.

Amanda-Jade Wellington's inspired bowling effort and some majestic hitting from Deandra Dottin paved the way for the Strikers' second win of the season.

Dottin takes charge

Strikers openers Dottin and Katie Mack took a more cautious approach to the chase. The duo added 33 runs for the first wicket as Mack holed out for 12 to Sarah Coyte in the sixth over.

South African international Laura Wolvaardt came out with an aggressive approach. It was all one-way traffic since Dottin and Wolvaardt smashed the Renegades' bowling attack with ease.

With 24 to win, Wolvaardt gave her wicket away, handing Coyte her second scalp.

However, Dottin and Tahlia McGrath took the Strikers past the finish line with three overs to spare. Dottin, a former West Indies women's international, registered her third WBBL fifty in 54 balls.

The Strikers moved to fifth place in the points table with this win.

Amanda Wellington 5-for downs the Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades' innings started poorly, losing four wickets for 22 win runs, thanks to an inspired spell from Wellington.

Wellington snared Hayley Matthews and Erica Kershaw, who formed the Renegades' batting.

Courtney Webb and Carly Leeson consolidated their side, adding 51 crucial runs for the fifth wicket. Webb scored 29 runs before Jemma Barsby picked up her second wicket.

Leeson held one end as wickets tumbled in heaps at the other. She, too, fell for a 33-ball 35.

Wellington got two wickets in her final over, which bundled the Melbourne-based club for 101.

With this, the Australian equaled the best-ever bowling figures in WBBL (5-8), also set by her in the last edition against Brisbane Heat.
