India recorded a memorable four-wicket victory in their World Cup opener against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, courtesy of a majestic 82-run knock from Virat Kohli. Chasing 160, India were reeling at 31 for four at one stage. But Virat Kohli came to the rescue and played a sensational knock, sealing the last-over thriller for team India.

After India's miraculous win, former opener Gautam Gambhir hailed Virat Kohli for his glorious inning. Considering the occasion, the quality of the Pakistani bowling attack and match-pressure, Gambhir ranked Kohli's this belligerent knock higher than his famous Mohali inning against Australia in the 2016 World Cup.

The Delhi-born was also awed by Kohli's timely six off Haris Rauf, which was vital in tilting the game in India's favour.

Here's what Gambhir said on Kohli's heroics

"Finishing it off, probably literally getting more than 50% of the run. So it has to be up there probably better than the Mohali innings because if you see the magnitude, the conditions, the pressure, this was much more,

"It was probably the shot of the tournament. You knew that if he had not hit that ball out of the ground, India would have been under serious pressure because 28 off 8, you are looking at a defeat. Playing that shot under pressure against Haris Rauf. It's just the quality of that shot."

Indeed, Kohli's knock will be remembered for ages by not only the Indian fans but also people across the globe. Riding high on confidence, India will face the Netherlands in their second Super 12 affair in Sydney on Thursday.
