Sam Curran was appointed captain in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan against RR much to the surprise of  everyone as Jitesh Sharma was their designated vice-captain from the start of IPL 2024. The Englishman though repaid the faith and led from the from to pick two wickets in the penultimate over that brought Punjab Kings right back in the game.

Rajasthan Royals needed 20 in two overs and the first two balls were smashed for fours by Rovman Powell. However, Sam Curran bowled a clever short delivery on the third one, that got the better of Caribbean powerhouse and on the final delivery of that over, he got rid of Keshav Maharaj as well.

It brought the equation down to 10 runs off final over but unfortunately for Punjab Kings, Hetmyer was there for RR, and he took Rajasthan over the line on the fifth delivery of the final over.

Earlier, Punjab Kings scored 147 while batting first with Ashutosh Sharma playing another handy cameo at the backend. 

In reply, RR got off to a slow start and lost wickets in the middle overs, as the match went right down to the wire, something that has been the trend over the years when RR and PBKS go head-to-head.
