Former Mumbai Indians' captain Rohit Sharma had a lucky escape during his side's ongoing IPL 2024 clash against Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur stadium in Mohali. 

The incident took place during the fifth over of MI's innings when Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were trying to steady the ship for the visitors following Ishan Kishan's unfortunate early dismissal. 

Bowling his first over of the day, Harshal Patel conceded a boundary before putting pressure back on the MI duo with his tight lines. 

The experienced speedster delivered a terrific yorker that struck Rohit on his toes. As it looked close in real time, the on-field umpire didn't hesitate to declare the batter out once the Punjab players appealed. 


However, as he wasn't convinced with the decision, Rohit opted to go upstairs. Although there was no inside edge, the HawkEye tracking technology found the ball to be going down the leg. 

As a result, the TV umpire asked his on-field colleague to overturn his decision, allowing Rohit a lifeline. 

The MI batters celebrated the call, while one of Punjab's fangirl expressed her frustration at Rohit's lucky survival. 

Riding on Rohit and Surya's flamboyant stroke play, MI have got a brisk start to their innings. As of writing, the Hardik Pandya-led outfit was placed at 59 for one in 7.2 overs, with Rohit and Surya batting on 27* and 24*, respectively.
