In a massive development, swashbuckling Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed that he won't likely participate in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's upcoming IPL 2024 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Speaking on ESPN's 'Around the Wicket' show, Maxwell revealed that he had developed a hip strain and would require some time to regain match fitness.

“I’ve actually got a little bit of a hip strain so I’ve got a few more days off and during recovery," Maxwell said.

Notably, the explosive batter withdrew himself from RCB's last game against SRH because he was struggling with poor form.

However, he is eager to put his hands up and make his comeback in the tournament if RCB has any spot up for grabs.

“So I’ve got a little period here where I’m still training, still trying to get myself right. If there is a spot that becomes available, I’ll obviously put my hand up and take it," Maxwell added.

"It’s not one of those things where I’ve set a date that I’ll be out for three games then I’ll come back whenever I’m ready. That’s that’s not how it works. I haven’t been at a level that’s good enough to warrant a spot on the side this year,” he concluded.

Maxwell had a horrible time with the bat earlier in the tournament, managing only 32 runs in six outings at a mediocre average. He was replaced by Will Jacks, who is yet to showcase his batting mettle in the IPL 2024

Led by Faf du Plessis, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have had a miserable IPL 2024 campaign, reeling at the bottom of the points table with six crushing defeats in seven matches. They will face the rampant KKR unit in their next group-stage match on April 21.
