Sydney Thunder squared off with Perth Scorchers earlier today for the 30th matchup of the ongoing Big Bash League season at Sydney Showground Stadium.

Scorchers' stand-in captain Aaron Hardie won the bat flip contest to invite Thunder to bat first under the lights. However, Thunder opener Alex Hales had other plans. The struggling Englishman intended to break free from his ordinary form and targeted none other than the Scorchers skipper, Aaron Hardie.

For the penultimate delivery of the third over, Hardie bowled a good length ball, which landed in the slot for Hales as he slammed a huge hit over deep mid-wicket. Hales timed the colossal hit perfectly to shove it into the stands. The crowd, as well as the commentators, went bonkers seeing the Englishman's enormous power.

However, Alex Hales was just getting started. In the very next delivery, Hardie moved his length to short, but the end result stayed the same. Hales had found his groove as he muscled the short-pitched delivery over mid-wicket in a similar shot. With two back-to-back gigantic sixes, Thunder clubbed 25 runs in a mere 3 overs and were off to a flyer start.

That being said, Alex Hales' comeback comes at a crucial juncture for Sydney Thunder. The team has struggled to find its footing this BBL season. With six games already under the rug, Thunder managed to add only 3 points to its tally, thus putting the playoff hope in jeorpardy.

On the flip side, Perth Scorchers continue to dominate despite losing captain Ashton Turner to injury. Needless to say, the challenge is steep, but Hales' firepower at the top has brought much-needed momentum for Thunder.

It's important for Sydney to set up a respectable target of 150 or above to stand a chance at a win. So far, the scoring rate is below 7, and the middle-order must pick up pace before it's too late.
