Mumbai Indians (MI) may face a setback in the upcoming IPL 2024, as per insider reports suggesting that Suryakumar Yadav is likely to miss the first half of the season due to an ankle injury. Yadav, who recently led India in the T20Is in South Africa, suffered the injury during the third and final match in Johannesburg, subsequently undergoing ankle surgery. The recovery period is expected to last a couple of months, raising doubts about his participation in the IPL.

Adding to the concerns, a recent report, reveals that Yadav has developed a sports hernia, necessitating another surgery.

This could extend his recovery time to 8-9 weeks, casting shadows on his IPL involvement. The news also rules him out of contention for the Indian squad in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, commencing on January 11.

As the MI camp grapples with Yadav's potential absence, attention turns to possible replacements. Vishnu Vinod, Nehal Wadhera, and Dewald Brevis are among the contenders speculated to step in and fill the void left by the talented batter.

Who Will Replace Suryakumar Yadav in Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024?

1.VISHNU VINOD

Hailing from Kerala, 29-year-old Vishnu Vinod, with three prior IPL appearances, debuted for Mumbai Indians against Gujarat Titans on May 12 at Wankhede Stadium. The seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman, boasting 50 T20 matches under his belt, amassing 1191 runs at a strike rate of 138.81, emerges as a strong contender to replace Suryakumar Yadav in IPL 2024.

2.NEHAL WADHERA

Another potential replacement for Suryakumar Yadav in IPL 2024 is Nehal Wadhera, currently playing for Mumbai Indians. The 22-year-old left-handed batter showcased his prowess in his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore with a boundary off Michael Bracewell and consecutive sixes off Karn Sharma, including a massive 101-meter hit over long-on.

3.DEWALD BREVIS

The Mumbai franchise invested ₹3 crore to acquire Dewald Brevis in the IPL 2022 auction. Dubbed 'Baby AB' for his versatile strokeplay, the 20-year-old, considered a T20 sensation, has only featured in seven IPL matches. Despite warming the bench in 2023, the absence of Suryakumar Yadav could provide Brevis with an opportunity to make his mark this season.
