In a battle between two of the Melbourne Stars’ most important members, Marcus Stonis won the first mini-battle, smashing a 93-metre six against Glenn Maxwell, before ending up losing his wicket in the same over.

After winning the toss and asking LSG to bat first, RCB were under pressure with Quinton de Kock’s rampant thrashing. Faf du Plessis then brought Maxwell back into the attack during the 14th over of LSG’s innings. Stoinis welcomed him with a monstrous six after the latter bowled a full delivery on the stumps. The hard-hitting all-rounder cleared his front leg and slammed it over wide long-on for a half-a-dozen.

Stoinis was promoted to No. 4 to carry on the momentum for LSG, and he did his part, making 24 off 15 balls before falling to Maxwell three balls after the six.

Both RCB and LSG are not in a great form, having placed in the bottom half of the points table. Hence, a victory here is very important for either side, with RCB requiring in particular after a humiliating seven-wicket loss to KKR ahead of this fixture.

At the time of writing this, LSG are on a roll, racing to 141/3 in 16 overs, with Quinton de Kock making headlines with a 53-ball 80 not out.
