Did Gerald Coetzee Break Mayank Yadav's Record Of Fastest IPL 2024 Ball In MI vs RR?

Gerald Coetzee had a bit of a challenging start to his IPL career with Mumbai Indians (MI). Despite high hopes from the MI management, his performance didn't quite meet expectations in his first few matches, with just three wickets to his name, including a wicketless outing against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.

Coetzee was brought in after Jofra Archer failed at MI last year. However, amidst these challenges, Coetzee managed to achieve a notable feat by bowling the fastest ball of the IPL season against Rajasthan Royals, clocking an impressive speed of 157.4 kmph.

Unfortunately, Rajasthan Royals scored the winning run off that delivery.

Mayank Yadav's record lived for two days

LSG's young sensation, Mayank Yadav, stole the spotlight two nights before by delivering the fastest ball of the season, clocking in at an impressive 155.8 kmph against PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan.

What's even more remarkable is that out of the 24 deliveries he bowled, nine of them exceeded the 150 kmph mark.

With Coetzee recently breaking this record, the stage is set for an exciting contest among the pacers in the IPL. Bowlers like Matheesha Pathirana, Umran Malik, Lockie Ferguson and Anrich Nortje are also in the mix and could potentially outpace Yadav and Coetzee in coming days.

Shaun Tait still holds the record for bowling the fastest ball in IPL history, clocking in at 157.71 kmph back in 2011. However, Gerald Coetzee came remarkably close to breaking that record with his delivery.
