They deal with failure in the most rational way: Karthik hails Rohit-Dravid duo

The first T20I between India and West Indies turned out to be a memorable one for Dinesh Karthik as his blistering 19-ball 41* helped India register a thumping 68-run victory over the hosts. 

In the aftermath of the game, Karthik was enquired about the changes he sees in the current Indian dressing room by fellow teammate Ravichandran Ashwin. 

In reply, the dynamic keeper-batter said that the Rohit-Dravid duo deals with failure in the most logical way, something he had never witnessed before in the Indian dressing room. 

“The kind of calmness that seems to be around this set-up in terms of the coach and captain, I think a lot of credit must go to both of them because they have set up an atmosphere where they are dealing with failure in the most rational way possible,” Karthik said. 

Elaborating on the matter, Karthik stressed that the management treats the players indifferently irrespective of their performance in the game. 

The 37-year-old lauded the Indian think tank for this mindset, as it helps the players express themselves freely on the cricket field.  

“At times when I didn’t do well, I still felt I was treated the same way. The dressing room atmosphere was pretty calm, and it was good. These are the small tick boxes that we need to have at this stage of the game,” the Chennai-born concluded.
