Shan Masood has signed a deal with Yorkshire CCC to become one of their overseas players. Masood turned down multiple extension pleas from Derbyshire despite improved offers.

It has been confirmed that Masood will leave Derbyshire CCC at the end of the 2022 season after turning down a contract extension.

The contract extension was offered by the club on the basis of Masood's stellar run with the bat in his very first season with the club. However, Masood decided against the idea of re-signing with the club for the next season.

Masood's stint with Derbyshire

Till now, Masood has featured in 25 matches across formats this season for Derbyshire and proved his worth as a senior overseas player.

The top-order batter had enjoyed a stunning run with the bat in the County Championship, where he had racked up 1,074 runs in the red-ball and 547 runs in the Vitality T20 Blast. He also struck 145 in three Royal London Cup appearances, highlighting his versatility across formats.

Masood, who led Derbyshire in the T20 Blast this year, took the English County by storm after piling on runs; he became the first batsman in this year's County Championship 2022 to cross the 1,000-runs landmark mark.

Likely to lead Yorkshire

The club can also hand over the captaincy duties to the Pakistan star batter after Steve Patterson had stepped down as Yorkshire’s captain and the departure of the club's T20 captain David Willey.

Masood's signing could lead to a reform amidst racism controversy in Yorkshire.
