This isn't a wake-up call or anything like that: Ben Stokes

England men's Test captain Ben Stokes insists the team's attacking mindset won't change after their humiliating loss against South Africa in the first Test at Lord's on Friday.

'Bazball' was in focus ahead of the first Test between England and South Africa at Lord's as the hosts were flaunting their approach, they won 4 Tests on the trot this summer but were comfortably outplayed by the spirited South African team.

The visiting Proteas stunned England to clinch the first game of the three-match Test series inside three days.

Stokes confident of a series win

"Obviously, we're disappointed to lose. It'd be silly for me to say anything different. But if we dive into this too much, about one result in a three-match series, then we're not looking forward to what's coming ahead. Now we've got two more games to bounce back from this. And then hopefully, take the series 2-1,"

"We know that, when we perform to the capabilities that we're capable of, then we can go out and put some incredible performances like everybody's been able to see in the four games before this. This isn't a wake-up call or anything like that. It's just, unfortunately, we were unable to execute in the way that we wanted to play this week against South Africa,"

Skipper on the future Test fixtures

Despite losing the first Test of the summer, Stokes remains positive about his team's approach of playing Test cricket and wants his side to put the defeat behind them ahead of the second match of the series at Old Trafford, which starts on Thursday.
