Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ended their unlucky streak of six consecutive defeats by clinching a 35-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 41 of IPL 2024 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, RCB put on a show with the bat, amassing a formidable 206/7. Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar led the charge, each notching up a half-century. Jaydev Unadkat, marking his 100th IPL appearance, shone with an impressive three-fer.

In their pursuit, Sunrisers Hyderabad's innings never caught fire as they lost wickets consistently, managing only 171/8. Their chase fell short by 35 runs.

Shahbaz Ahmed was the last man standing with an unbeaten 40, while Abhishek Sharma contributed a brisk 31. On the bowling front, Swapnil Singh, Karn Sharma, and Cameron Green snagged two wickets apiece.

Here’s the timeline of how SRH vs RCB panned out in Hyderabad.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis Provide Blistering Start

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis set the stage with a solid 48-run opening partnership. However, the partnership was nipped in the bud by T Natarajan, who dismissed du Plessis

The early momentum slightly faltered as Will Jacks returned to the pavillion cheaply, outfoxed by the spin of Mayank Markande.

Kohli Scores Another Fifty; Patidar Goes Bonkers

Despite the slowdown, Kohli managed to notch up a gritty half-century, scoring 51 off 43 balls. His innings, while steady, sparked debate due to a modest strike rate of 118.60 as he found tackling the post-powerplay overs challenging with spinners tightening the screws and pacers pulling back the pace.

Meanwhile, Rajat Patidar stole the spotlight, going on a rampage with a blistering 50 off just 20 deliveries. He particularly targeted Markande, hitting him for four consecutive sixes, and stitched together a vital 65-run stand for the third wicket with Kohli.

Cameron Green and Swapnil Singh's Closing Blitz

In the tail-end of the innings, Cameron Green played a crucial cameo, smashing an unbeaten 37 off 20 balls to propel RCB past the 200-run mark.

Swapnil Singh, the impact player, chipped in with a quickfire 12 off 6 balls in the dying moments, helping RCB to set a competitive total.

Unfortunately, Dinesh Karthik couldn't play the finisher's role this time as Pat Cummins got the upper hand, dismissing him and limiting RCB to 206/7.

Early Collapse as SRH’s Big 4 Departs Cheaply

SRH's chase started on shaky ground, as wickets began tumbling from the get-go. The in-form Travis Head was quickly sent packing for a solitary run by Will Jacks in the opening over.

Abhishek Sharma injected some momentum with a rapid 31 off 13 balls, but his fireworks were cut short by Yash Dayal in his first over.

The early exits of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen, both dismissed by Swapnil Singh, during the powerplay, left SRH reeling at 62/4 after the first six overs.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Pat Cummins’ Desperate Fightback

Despite the top order crumbling, the middle and lower order of Sunrisers Hyderabad batted with determination. Shahbaz Ahmed was the anchor, scoring an unbeaten 40 and holding the innings together amidst the chaos.

Pat Cummins, batting down at number eight, briefly revived hopes with a brisk 31 off 15 balls.

But his valiant effort was not enough to turn the tide, as his fall in the 14th over signalled the beginning of the end.

On the bowling front, Cameron Green (2/12), Karn Sharma (2/29), and Swapnil Singh (2/40) each took a pair of wickets, keeping the pressure on. Yash Dayal impressed with his economy, giving away only 18 runs in three overs as RCB defeated SRH by 35 runs.
