Pakistan avenged their group-stage loss to India by beating their arch-rivals in the Super Four game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday, September 4 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Chasing a stiff target of 182 runs, the wicket-keeper batter Mohammed Rizwan anchored the Pakistan innings well and scored a stunning 71 off 51 balls.

However, it was left-handed batter Mohammad Nawaz who changed the course of the game with his quick-fire 42 off 20 balls as Pakistan gunned down the target with one ball to spare.

Earlier, former India captain Virat Kohli had shown glimpses of his vintage self in the high-octane clash and scored a sublime half-century to help India post a challenging 182-run target for Men in Green.

Team India was in a spot of bother after both of their opening batters KL Rahul and captain Rohit Sharma perished in successive overs after providing the team a blazing start in the powerplay.

However, Kohli, once again stepped up when it mattered the most and made sure that the team got to a competitive total at the end of the first half of the game.

The 33-year-old played an awe-inspiring knock and brought up his 32nd T20I half-century with a six. He was eventually dismissed in the final over after scoring 60 runs from 44 deliveries.

The India captain Rohit Sharma, speaking up in the post-match conference showered praise on Virat Kohli, asserting that former captain batted with tempo against their arch-rivals and his form is "brilliant" as well.

"The form is brilliant [talking about Virat Kohli]. Needed someone to bat long when the others were getting out. He batted with that tempo as well. Virat getting that score was crucial from the team's point of view."

Virat Kohli, on Sunday also achieved a special milestone as the flamboyant batter became the player to score most fifty-plus scores in the shortest format at the international stage, surpassing current Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the tally, who has a total of 31 fifty-plus scores.

The 33-year-old looked horribly out of form ahead of Asia Cup 2022, as he took a six-week break missing the tours to West Indies and Zimbabwe.

However, now it seems that the break paid handsome dividends as Kohli has finally shown signs of returning of form.  Currently he is the second leading run-scorer in the ongoing multinational tournament, with 154 runs in three innings.
