In a significant development, Delhi Capitals' star duo David Warner and Ishant Sharma, two of the veterans of the Rishabh Pant-led franchise, will miss their forthcoming fixture against Mumbai Indians, to be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sourav Ganguly, Delhi Capitals' director of cricket, confirmed the development in a press conference on Friday ahead of the much-anticipated fixture, citing that both of them are yet to recover from their injuries.

Warner missed out on Delhi’s previous fixture against Gujarat Titans, which they dramatically won by 4 runs after Rashid Khan’s heroics. Ishant, on the other hand, has been unavailable for a while, with Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, Anrich Nortje, and impact substitute Rasikh Salam filling in as fast bowling options.

In Warner’s absence, Delhi brought in Shai Hope as one of the four overseas players against Gujarat. Hope failed to impress, scoring only five off six balls before holing out to Rashid off Sandeep Warrier.

With four wins and five defeats, Delhi are placed sixth on the IPL 2024 points table, ahead of Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
