High spirited Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will take on last placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday at home in the 41st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. With playoffs in sight, Pat Cummins-led SRH will fight tooth and nail to oust RCB from the competition.

The last time SRH met RCB, sparks flared as SRH posted IPL’s highest-ever team total of 287 runs. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klassen owned RCB’s abysmal bowling unit.

Moreover, in the most recent game against DC, SRH once again posted 266 runs to record a comprehensive 67-run victory.

So far, Cummins' side has set no foot wrong in this dominant IPL 2024 season. Their batting unit has set the bar to a new high, and thus far, no team has been able to put a stop to their onslaught.

That being said, the grey area of SRH is perhaps their bowling group. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar and captain Cummins have been clinical, the spinners have been largely inconsistent. For instance, Washington Sundar went for 46 runs in two overs against DC as his economy soared to 23.

Hence, for the upcoming important clash against RCB, Pat Cummins could switch Sundar for Umran Malik as an impact player option.

Malik, who impressed the league with his extraordinary pace in IPL 2022, has been sidelined this year under Cummins’ captaincy. He isn’t fitting into the squad and, hence, has warmed the bench for almost major half of the tournament.

However, regardless, it's better late than never. Pat Cummins needs to test his troops before heading into the playoffs to figure out the right pieces to the bowling group’s puzzle. And Umran Malik surely deserves a game here, given his merit.
