For the first time this IPL 2024 season, Rahul Tewatia performed up to expectations for GT as his 18 ball 36 runs knock helped GT edge over PBKS in a low thriller clash.

Gujarat Titans dominated over Punjab Kings’ out of form batting lineup by triggering a collapse after Rilee Rossouw’s wicket.  However, Harpreet Brar’s hard-earned 29 runs injected some life into the contest.

With 143 runs target on board, GT were comfortable with a 66 runs opening stand. But a couple of quick wickets offered a way back for PBKS until Rahul Tewatia sealed things for GT with a classic 36 runs knock.

We practice these situations: Tewatia speaks

That being said, Rahul Tewatia revealed that he wasn’t under pressure during the chase as he practiced thoroughly for these kinds of situations in the nets. He added that he had been given the role of a finisher by the team.

"We practice these situations only in the nets (chuckles). We practice the same role given to us by the team. If we can nail the role, then what's better than that?" Tewatia said.

Tewatia further revealed that with Shahrukh Khan and Omarzai being in the lineup, he always had the belief of taking GT through comfortably.

"After me, we had a bit of batting to come. Shahrukh Khan was there, and Azmatullah Omarzai was batting alongside me. We had the belief," he added.

Lastly, Tewatia claimed that the wicket had less turn to offer for spinners and that he planned to attack left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar.

The win over PBKS was much needed for GT to keep their playoff hopes alive and Rahul Tewatia’s return to form is just a cherry on top.
