David Warner bowed out of Test cricket after Australia pummelled Pakistan by 3-0 in the recently concluded Test series at home. The dynamic Australian opener listed a couple of match-winning knocks during the series, thus bringing down curtains on his illustrious 112-match career.

A few days before quitting Test cricket, Warner also announced his ODI retirement, with Australia's 2023 World Cup triumph in India being his final 50-overs international assignment.

As it turns out, the cricketer aims to conclude his international career with the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be played in June across the West Indies and the United States.

David Warner wants to retire with a World Cup win

After Australia cruised to an eight-wicket win over Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), David Warner described the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup as his finishing goal.

The prolific opening batsman said he wants to conclude his Australian career with a T20I assignment because he also commenced his international journey through the most truncated format of the game.

Speaking after his farewell Test match, he said:

“That (the 2024 T20 World Cup) was my finishing goal if I wasn’t getting to here (the SCG for the third Test against Pakistan). That was my last hurrah, the T20s. I started my career in T20 cricket and will finish my career in T20 cricket. Think it’s fitting. I really enjoy the game but most importantly I want to win another World Cup for Australia.”

David Warner retired from Tests with 8,786 runs to his name at a prolific average of nearly 45. Moreover, the cricketer maintained a staggering strike rate of more than 70 in his career and tallied 26 tons and 37 half-centuries.

Warner also bludgeoned 6,932 runs from 161 ODI matches, with his final appearance being Australia's 2023 World Cup final against India in Ahmedabad back in November 2023.

While the legendary opener is poised to quit international cricket this year, he will continue to ply his trade in a number of prominent T20 leagues like IPL and Big Bash for the next few years.
