NZ vs SL: Trent Boult evaluates playing conditions after Kiwis restrict Lankans to 171

Exhibiting clever bowling and fielding, the Blackcaps had the Sri Lankan team on the back foot at 128/9. However, a resilient last-wicket stand of 43 runs between Maheesh Theekshana and Dilshan Madushanka propelled Sri Lanka to set a target of 172 runs. This late partnership added a twist to the innings, providing the Sri Lankan team with a glimmer of hope.

Trent Boult emerged as a standout performer for New Zealand, ending his 10-over spell with impressive figures of 3/37. During the mid-innings break, Boult shared his insights, expressing satisfaction with the team's performance. He acknowledged the pitch's slower nature, particularly for the spinners, and highlighted the importance of adapting to these conditions.

"Yes, 100%. Good work done. It was a bit different in the end, but half the job is done. The pitch is slower for the spinners and we have to go out there and getting the job done in the end. Hoping to do well and the focus is on winning the game today,” said Boult.

With the pitch playing slower than expected, Boult was hopeful that the evening dew would aid their batting.

He remained optimistic about New Zealand's chances, pointing out the the team's readiness to tackle the challenges posed by the surface. Boult's focus was clear - the team needed to maintain their momentum and execute their chase efficiently.

“The pitch is slower and hope to do well. Those things happen. That was a good wicket and this one is and hope the dew comes around as well. We hope to chase it down in the end,” added the southpaw.

It is worth mentioning that the importance of this chase goes beyond just winning the match. New Zealand is keenly aware of the significance of boosting their run rate. Achieving a swift victory was crucial in their bid to secure a semi-final spot, especially with Pakistan and Afghanistan also aiming for the coveted position.
