'He Should Be Fined...': Former Aussie Opener Fumes At Pant; Here's The Reason

In match No.25, Delhi Capitals(DC) defeated Lucknow Super Giants(LSG) by 6 wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 12, 2024 in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

During the match, DC captain Rishabh Pant was involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpire over a DRS call against Lucknow Super Giants.

This incident was seen in the 4th over when Lucknow was batting after Ishant Sharma bowled a ball down the leg side to LSG batter Devdutt Padikkal. After that, the on-field umpire signalled for wide but in return, Pant took a review that clearly showed that it was a wide ball.

There was a misunderstanding that took place on the field, which was later clarified by the broadcasters that Pant probably did want to take the review for the wide ball after signalling 'T' signal to his fellow DC player. This was probably misunderstood by the on-field umpire.

Adam Gilchrist Opined That Rishabh Pant Should Be Fined

Former Australian Captain and wicketkeeper batter Adam Gilchrist was upset with Rishabh Pant's behaviour with the on-field umpire during the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

"I saw another example tonight where umpires need to take better control of games, and that is in any format. They just got to do a better job at moving things forward. There was a dispute over whether Rishabh had reviewed it. Okay, there was a miscommunication over the review call. But they stood there and spoke about that for 3-4 minutes. It's a very simple conversation, I believe. No matter how much Rishabh is complaining or any other player is complaining, umpires should just say, 'it's over' and quickly move on. But if he keeps talking, he should get fined," Gilchrist said on Cricbuzz.

Pant was spotted having a lengthy conversation with the on-field umpire and arguing over the review lost. The DC captain looked visibly angry after they lost the wide-ball review on a wide ball.

He also slammed the umpire and feels that the umpires present on the ground should be given more authority and freedom to tackle these kinds of situations and needles get into elongated conversations with players. Gilchrist also believes that the DC captain should be fined because of his behaviour and way of handling things on the ground.

Delhi Capitals will play its next fixture against Gujarat Titans on April 17, 2024.
