Punjab Kings cruised to a seven-wicket win over defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the latter’s home ground in match number 49 of the IPL 2024 season. After restricting the ‘Yellow Brigade’ to just 162 courtesies of Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar, the visitors overhauled their task with more than two overs to spare.

After the match, Punjab Kings skipper Sam Curran hailed the collective efforts of his two spinners, and expressed his delight in attaining a winning momentum towards the business end of the season.

Sam Curran says PBKS will carry 1-0 confidence vs CSK

Sam Curran, who drilled 26 unbeaten runs in the chase, expressed his delight after toppling CSK away from home. The Englishman praised new-ball speedster Kagiso Rabada for setting the tone for Punjab Kings upfront in the game, and added that his team will be aiming to carry the winning momentum forward.

While speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, he said:

“Very happy. Anytime coming to Chennai and getting two points is a special feeling. We are winning away from home than at home last season. It's about finding the right balance and keep the momentum going and let the table do the rest. Have to keep winning. The conditions are such that we had to win the toss and bowled well. KG bowled well and set the tone for us.”

Sam Curran also praised spinners Rahul Chahar (2-16) and Harpreet Brar (2-17) for dismantling CSK’s top-order after Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad raced to a 64-run opening partnership at the top.

Curran further acknowledged Chahar’s tight penultimate over to MS Dhoni, where the leg-spinner conceded just three runs and claimed the wicket of Moeen Ali. The Punjab Kings skipper stated:

“The spinners were great Rahul Chahar and Brar bowled well. Chahar bowling to MS in the 19th over was great and showed great courage. I got hit a bit. The pacers got hit. Spinners were bowling well. This game can be cruel and we need to be creative as well.”

Sam Curran is wary of his team’s impending CSK challenge, considering they are slated to face the defending champions once again in a couple of days. He stated that with a comfortable win in their opening round, his Punjab Kings troops will be aiming to gain confidence in Dharamshala.

“We come against the same opposition and are 1-0 up against them. We will take the confidence going ahead. Everything happened well and happy with the 2 points.”

Sam Curran’s Punjab Kings will be facing CSK in match number 53 of the IPL 2024 season on May 5.
