'Why He is Playing..'- Former KKR Star Slams RR Think Tank For Backing 'This' Player

On Wednesday, the inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals will have a mountain to climb, as they will take on the mighty Chennai Super Kings in the 17th group-stage fixture of the ongoing IPL season.

The Royals have had a tremendous IPL campaign so far, occupying the top position in the standings with two wins in three appearances. While a majority of things have fallen into place for them, promising batter Riyan Parag's abysmal form continues to haunt them.

Parag, who was promoted to number four in the previous game against Delhi Capitals, could contribute only seven runs before Rovman Powell cleaned him up in the 14th over.

Ahead of RR's crucial clash against CSK, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra seemed to be baffled by their strategy to promote the Assam batter.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the ex-player also reckoned that CSK might use spinners early in the innings to neutralise Yashasvi Jaiswal, as they don't have a formidable pace attack.

Here's what Chopra stated

"You are still playing Riyan Parag at No. 4. Neither I nor you know why he is playing at No. 4, only Rajasthan know that. It is certain that Riyan will hit one day. He even tweeted that he will hit four sixes in as many balls in this IPL, it might be today evening,"

"Yashasvi Jaiswal is playing extremely well. You might get to see spin here against him because the fast bowling is slightly weak in any case. Interestingly, Sanju Samson’s numbers against this team are extremely ordinary. I don’t know why."

Despite receiving ample backing from the Royals' management, Parag hasn't lived up to the expectations, managing only 556 runs in 40 innings at a mediocre average of 16.35.

Therefore, the dynamic right-handed batter desperately needs to prove his worth and repay the franchise's faith.
