In a significant development, the International Cricket Council has declared Shakib Al Hasan and Henriette Ishimwe as the Player of the month for March in men's and women's category, respectively.

Legendary Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who enjoyed stellar success in international cricket last month, outclassed New Zealand's Kane Williamson and UAE's Asif Khan to win the player of the month award. The veteran cricketer was in sublime touch with both bat and ball in March, amassing 315 runs and scalping 15 wickets in 12 outings.

After emerging as one of the rare shining lights in an otherwise disappointing ODI series against England, the talisman continued his dream run in the T20Is, scoring 102 runs and claiming eight wickets in six appearances against England and Ireland.

As quoted by ICC, Shakib stated:

"I am honoured to win the award and would like to thank the expert panellists who have voted for me. This is a recognition I greatly value because there are so many special performances in a month from a number of amazing cricketers,

"If I was to pick my highlight from the past month, it has to be the T20 series sweep against England and, with the team continuing to perform beautifully as a unit in all departments, it is easier for me now to concentrate on my role and contribute."

Meanwhile, likewise Shakib, Rwanda's Henriette Ishimwe's prolific all-round performances in March has earned her the award in the Women's category.

The 19-year-old grabbed a million eyeballs through her impressive outings against Ghana and Cameroon in the Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s International Twenty20 Tournament held last month.

As quoted by ICC, Ishimwe said:

"I am humbled and honoured to win this award for my performances in the last month. I look forward to continuing to contribute to the world of cricket and win more matches for my country."
