Virat Kohli has always been India's main man in the T20 World Cups. Time after time, the former captain has delivered the goods on the biggest stage.

One Such incident took place during the T20 World Cup 2014 in Bangladesh. It was the semi-finale clash against a formidable South African team. South Africa won the toss and they elected to bat first on a Dhaka surface which was expected to get slower as the game progresses.

How the SA innings progressed

The South African innings will be remembered not for their performance with the bat, but for R Ashwin's magical carrom ball that knocked over the stumps of Hashim Amla.

The openers, Amla and Quinton de Kock departed in quick successions, but it was the experience of Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy, who stitched together a partnership of 71 and threatened to take the game away from the Indian camp.

However, the Indian bowlers kept things tight and despite losing only 4 wickets, South Africa could only score 172.

Virat special sees India through to the finale

India needed a good start from their openers, but the duo of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane failed on the biggest stage. Rohit scored a sluggish 24, while Rahane had a painstaking knock of 30-ball 32 that complicated the things for the Men in Blue.

Enters Virat Kohli, who had been brilliant throughout the tournament. The India's number 3 batter played with caution at the beginning, but once the required rate went beyond 9, he took the matters in his own hands.

The 'chasemaster' as they call him, took on South Africa's best bowler with ease - Dale Steyn and that put the pressure on the South African side. The final moment of the match is also remember for Dhoni's selfless gesture, as he allowed Kohli to finish things off in style.

Kohli, batting on 68 whipped a boundary through the mid-wicket region and let out a loud roar as he steered India through yet another finale of the ICC event.

Virat finished the match unbeaten on 72 and was also the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 319 runs.
