T20 World Cup 2022: 'Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul play old-fashioned way': Nasser Hussain

One of the world's most destructive opening pairs India's KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma have not managed to set the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on fire. Across the tournament, the opening duo have failed to get quick starts for their side, and have been too defensive in the Power Play.

Rohit has registered only two double-digit scores in four matches, while Rahul is coming off two back-to-back half-centuries. The pair will be crucial if India needs to demolish England's pace bowling in their semi-final 2 clash on Thursday.

Former England skipper Nasser Hussain, ahead of the knockout clash, came hard on the Indian duo.

Writing in his column in the Daily Mail, Hussain said that both Rohit and Rahul exhibit old-fashioned cricket, while India is in need of a more modern and dynamic approach.

"Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul do play in a slightly old-fashioned way in the first few overs but that has suited India in this tournament because the ball has moved around at the start.

India need to be more dynamic if they are going to win World Cups and that is where Suryakumar Yadav — or SKY as he is known — has been so important."

Hussain also praised Virat Kohli and Surya Kumar Yadav for their performances in the marquee event.
